RazenThe Brussels duo Razen has been around for 11 years now. 2 weeks after the lockdown was declared in March 2020, 'Robot Brujo' was released on the French 'Hands In The Dark' label. It became the ideal soundtrack for these (post-) corona times. The double album features 6 improvisational pieces in which the band, this time as a trio with Kim Delcour on (bagpipe) flute, Brecht Ameel on stringed instruments and David Poltrock on (sequenced) synths and electronics, achieve maximum effect with a limited sound palette and minimal variations in timing, articulation and timbre. The band has achieved a unique status in the experimental improvisation scene and anyone who has ever seen them live knows that a concert at the AB Club will undoubtedly be a unique experience that will resonate in every fibre of your being for a long time to come.'Razen push the drone potential of medieval instruments like hurdy gurdy as well as shawm and recorders... into realms of total sensory overload' (David Keenan / Volcanic Tongue)Kaboom KaravanAfter a silence of 6 years, Kaboom Karavan, the experimental acoustic-folk-from-another-dimension project of Bram Bosteels, released a new album on Berlin label 'Miasmah' on July 17, 2020. Together with Stefaan Smagghe (violin ) and Liesbeth Marit (electronics &visuals) Bosteels creates a unique sound world in which you, as a listener, get completely carried away.Erik K Skodvin aka Svarte Grainer, 1/2 of Deaf Center and Miasmah labelboss about the album: ‘All the sounds, textures, instrumentation and stories that bind The Log and the Leeway together go far beyond what can be touched up in this simple writeup. As someone who has followed this journey since the beginning, and seen it shift from lighthearted fun to the most crepuscular personal experience, heard the stories behind (almost) every field recording and gone through boundless amounts of clips, visual details, notes, and inspirations – I can only say that it is with great pleasure and certain nostalgia I can present this record in full through Miasmah and close this quite extraordinary chapter. Bram is without doubt the most fascinating person I know. Like I told him in April 2020 during a trying time: “If everything fails, we´ll open a Kaboom Karavan museum”.
