Irène Laub Gallery is glad to present "upright", a solo show by Portuguese artist Rui Calçada Bastos.
Curated by Gregory Lang, this exhibition questions notions of balance and depth through a selection of works that create spatio-temporal breaches in the foundation and the intimacy of our memory. The artist develops and renews his visual language linked to construction and urban environments, which is marked by encounters, associations and found objects presented in new settings.
Rui Calçada Bastos’ work is included in several institutional collections in Germany, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Brazil, France, Spain and Portugal. He had two major personal exhibitions in Portugal: one at the MAAT in Lisbon in 2016 and a large-scale retrospective at the Colégio das Artes in Coimbra, in 2019.
