A nice brunch … with the kids

The perfect Sunday morning starts with an elaborate brunch. Gather the whole family round the table and have some bacon and eggs, or fruit salad, or yogurt with granola, or pancakes … or all of the above!

Brussels locals (known as “Brusseleirs”) really love a good brunch so many restaurants even offer it on Saturdays. Hit up these select addresses that cater to families with children.

  • Le Balmoral

Le Balmoral, this retro milk bar makes children feel right at home with its original American decor in white, pink and baby blue. The menu features classics such as burgers, bagels and milkshakes. What more do you want? Start off your day with a hearty brunch dish, such as pancakes with maple syrup, or eggs with bacon, sausages, hash browns and muffins.

Also delicious (but maybe a tad heavy first thing in the morning) is a giant ice cream sundae such as the 'Nouvelle Vague', with 1 scoop of mocha, 1 scoop of chocolote, 2 scoops of speculoos, 1 scoop of almond, 1 scoop of cookie, custard and whipped cream. One thing’s for certain, it’s the ideal to start the day and you’re sure to leave satisfied.

  • La Fabbrica

At the heart of Tour & Taxis; La Fabbrica, this urban brasserie with an industrial look & feel serves up an exquisite Sunday brunch for the whole family. It offers an Italian-style buffet made up of fresh produce and homemade dishes that will delight customers of all ages.

Are your children getting restless at the table? Don’t worry, the venue is very spacious. They can play and run around to theirs heart’s content without bothering you, in the immense Tour & Taxis Entrepôt Royal. The venue also has various activities to keep them occupied while you eat. They’re happy, you’re happy: win-win.

  • Chicago Café

Take time out at the Chicago Café, where locals and tourists enjoy sandwiches, burgers, salads and homemade cake all day long. (The cheesecake is to die for!). Whether you’re a fan of fish or meat, a vegetarian or even vegan, they offer brunches to suit all dietary needs.

The best thing of all about this friendly café is its cosy kids’ corner and the scrumptious children’s menu with its fun announcement: “If you clean your plate and Mum and Dad say it’s okay, you can have a free yoghurt with your kids’ meal (or an ice cream in sunny weather).” We love Chicago Café!

  • La Fabrique en Ville

This is a place to sit down and enjoy when the sun is out! La Fabrique en Ville is located in the heart of Egmont Park, a green cocoon in the middle of the city. The 100% homemade brunch, with a special children's menu, is offered as a large all-you-can eat buffet! With breads, jams, salads and small dishes, there's a large choice.

The must: play areas reserved for children! Upstairs, a games room just for them and outside, a huge park in which to unwind. What better way to let them have fun while you enjoy your brunch indoors or on the terrace.

  • Lloyd Café Presse

Next to Avenue Louise or in the Ixelles cemetery neighbourhood, the Lloyd Café Presse branches offer you the chance to enjoy a quiet coffee while your children have fun. These establishments are warm and welcoming places to enjoy a brunch served 7 days a week, with 4 options available. English, Nordic, Canadian or Belgian, enough to satisfy all your sweet or savoury morning desires!

It has a games room full of books, games and blackboards that allow them to express their boundless creativity. You can still keep an eye on them through a large bay window that overlooks this rather well thought-out space isolated from the hustle and bustle of the restaurant. Given the popularity of weekend brunches in Brussels, it is strongly recommended that you book in advance.
