On 25th September the hit list of special Brussels event sites will welcome a vibrant new entry: Train World. The location is the majestic 1887 Neo-Renaissance Schaerbeek railway station, 8 minutes to the north of Brussels Central station. This listed site now offers visitors the mystical Train World railway museum… and gives the professional community an exciting new venue option.
Meeting organisers looking for a stand-out site in Brussels will not be disappointed. Train World presents a fully-restored 1913 station concourse and ticket office hall with high vaulted ceiling and 550 m² of space for seminars, conferences, product presentations and corporate parties (capacity: more than 350 seated theatre style or 400 standing guests).
Hall and museum
For a more industrial environment, pass through the concourse to the new museum building. This is 8000 m² space can be hired for evening events, giving guests the chance to mingle amongst magnificent locomotives and wagons of a bygone era. Both spaces are served by on-site restaurant facilities.
What’s more, small groups visiting Train World can also stay overnight without ever leaving the railway ambience. Because just opposite is the new Train Hostel - one of the world’s very few hotels offering accommodation in authentic railway sleeper carriages!
For tourists and train enthusiasts, the new museum offers rich pickings from our engineering heritage: from the oldest steam locomotive in Belgium (1842) and a streamlined “Type 12” which set the world speed record in 1939, to sumptuous royal carriages, a train driving simulator and educational exhibits.
All this is orchestrated by scenography from François Schuiten, a noted Belgian artist and comic strip creator. The net effect is a fairy tale experience where you can look, listen, touch and be amazed by the wonderful world of trains.
