Watermael-Boitsfort covers 13 km2 and more than half of it is covered by the Sonian Forest. Especially in Boitsfort the forest is always nearby. On your route you will also encounter several ponds and brooks. In the 13th century, this village was founded on the edge of the forest, around the ducal hunting residence. Today, you can still see traces of this period, as you will discover during the walk. In the 19th century, many wealthy citizens set up a country house in a large estate. Even today, Watermael-Boitsfort is a very popular place to live, full of green space and tranquillity.
