In Laeken we’ll find the king's palace and its domains. Another feature is the Heysel, where the famous Expo '58 took place, which will soon be rebuilt. But Laeken also stands for port and industry. In the 19th century, when industrial activity increasingly moved to the centre of Laeken, the green character around the canal disappeared and Old Laeken became an industrial suburb. During our walk we will mainly explore these old neighbourhoods at the port and the site of Tour & Taxis. Empty industrial complexes in the port area are currently being renovated and given a new use. And a completely new sustainable district is being built, Tivoli Green City.
