Six shops for children (and their parents)

Six shops for children (and their parents)

Unique toys, charming outfits, soft cuddly toys... There are plenty of shops in Brussels that offer the very best products for children.

Want to have some fun with your little ones but can’t find anything that lives up to your expectations in the standard high-street shops? Travel back in time and revisit your childhood with these six Brussels shops. These unique shops for the whole family are guaranteed to stimulate conversation, awaken the senses and provide an escape from boredom.

  • Kat en Muis

The Dansaert district has clothes stores with Belgian fashion galore for adults – and their trendy kids. Looking for a fun outfit for every day or a special occasion? Pop into Kat en Muis for children’s clothing in all sizes!

We love the dresses, skirts and trousers with geometric prints by the Antwerp designer Anne Kurris. Anne used to work as a graphic designer for Dries Van Noten, but she is now making a great name for herself with her colourful collections.

    Serneels

Serneels is a household name in Brussels. This toy store has been making toys for babies, girls, boys, older children and collectors since 1959. You won’t find any commercial hypes or replica weapons here: instead they make real toys that spark the imagination.

Be sure to ask about the unique toy boxes and wooden puppet theatres made and painted by hand. Other fun gifts to give and receive are spinning tops, music boxes and typically English croquet sets. For grown-ups, there are traditional board games such as chess, draughts and backgammon.

    Slumberland

The first Slumberland store was founded in 1989, when the Belgian Comic Strip Centre was founded. It is located in the historic centre of Brussels. You will find an extensive choice of comic strips, graphic novels and mangas organised by genre: adventure, fantasy, humour, science fiction, western, etc. You will also find one of the largest collections of items and images connected to the Ninth Art here. The Ninth Art? You guessed it, comics are an art form in themselves! Literally... and superfiguratively.

Slumberland currently has six branches all over Belgium, one of which is in Brussels, at La Chaussée de Waterloo 752. This store is open 7 days a week from 10 am to 6:30 pm.

    Boucle d’or

Boucle d’Or is much more than just a children’s store. In this concept store located in the heart of the trendy Châtelain district, you will find all kinds of treasures. This delightful boutique sells games, books, postcards and cute furniture that will delight young and old alike.

With its premium selection of clothes, this boho chic boutique specialises in fashion items for children and teenagers. Trendy shoes, jewellery and accessories add a simple and expressive touch to your little monsters’ wardrobes. Don’t forget to visit this shop on your next family shopping trip!

Am stram gram – the children’s bookstore

In need of a little inspiration? Then the children’s bookstore Am Stram Gram is the place to go! You will certainly find the ideal gift for your little one here. As well as having a wide selection of albums and books for all styles and ages, there are also plenty of toys, board games and arts and crafts materials.

There’s even a special toddler’s section. Cute comforters, first games and stuffed animals await you here if you have a happy event to celebrate. And as if that wasn't enough, young schoolchildren will be able to get ready for the start of the school year thanks to the colourful range of schoolbags, sandwich boxes, water bottles and pencils.

    The Grasshopper

When you’re out and about shopping in Brussels, you definitely can’t miss this toy shop’s huge display windows! This store, opened by a mother who grew tired of the same old standard products offered by the big brands, has more than 7000 fun and quality items. That’s more than enough to toss their old toys in the attic and enjoy hours of fun with their new discoveries.

The Grasshopper also sells furnishings for your little ones’ rooms. You can even personalise certain accessories. A bib, bathrobe or towel with your child’s name embroidered on it; no more arguments between brothers and sisters – they each have their own!
