Make the most of the summer sales in Brussels

From 1st to 31st July, the shopping streets in Brussels are bustling with summer sales activity. Shopping in Brussels in the month of July is, more than ever, all about fashion and design.

From the lower part of the city, the reserve of exclusive designers and boutiques, right up to the heights of the capital where the emphasis is on luxury from near and far, not forgetting the districts that are home to the big chains, there’s something to suit all tastes and all pockets. In July, Brussels is, indisputably, the meeting-place for dedicated followers of fashion.

  • The shopping districts

  • Louise

Paris has its Champs Elysées, New York its Fifth Avenue, and Brussels has its Avenue Louise and Boulevard de Waterloo. The international brands are heavily represented here alongside high-end local shops.

Too good to miss: Delvaux, Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Hermes, Tod’s, Vuitton, Wolfers, Tiffany’s, Diane Von Furstenberg, Max Mara, Serneels, Crossword, Hall of Time, Francis Ferent, Natan, Degand, Cachemire Coton et Soie, Galeria Inno, Kenzo, Lancel, Sandro, Maje, and more.

  • Dansaert

The very trendy Dansaert district plays host, in bold spaces, to original projects in the field of contemporary fashion. Multi-brand stores offer the coolest labels from Dries Van Noten to Comme des Garçons. The studio boutiques of young designers showcase so many personal and unexpected styles. The sales here are well worthwhile for fashion-fans looking for unique and affordable pieces.

  • Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert

The oldest and most prestigious shopping arcades in Europe offer a selection of specialist shops. The Galeries are perfect for a shopping trip where good taste is certainly the order of the day.

Too good to miss: Tropismes, Delvaux, Longchamps, Neuhaus, Mary chocolatier, Ciel mes bijoux !, les Néréides, Ganterie Italienne, Repetto, Pierre Marcolini and more.

  • Sablon and Marolles

The Sablon and Marolles areas are famous for their antique dealers and vintage shops. But let’s not forget the chocolatiers who offer up wonderful window displays, each more scrumptious than the last.

Too good to miss: Wittamer, Dinh Van, Charlotte aux Pommes, Patrick Roger,  Leysen, Costermans,  Flamant Home Interior, Baobab, Au Bon Repos, Marcolini, Espace 161, Lunetier Ludovic, Les Brusseloises, Melting Pot and more.

  • Other districts also well worth the trip:

Rue du Bailli: The bourgeois bohemian district par excellence, Quartier du Châtelain and Rue du Bailli are brimming with new little boutiques. Exclusive addresses where that special something’s never far away.

Rue Neuve: A real landmark for international shop signs.

Rue de Namur & Matongé: International shop signs and exotic boutiques rub shoulders here. There’s something for everyone.

    Opening hours

From 1st July to 31st July, some shops are changing their opening hours. However, shops are usually open from 10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. Please note, on first Sunday of the month, a selection of stores open their doors.

    Tax refund

If you are a non-European resident, you can benefit from a VAT reimbursement (the VAT rate in Belgium is 21%) on purchases costing more than 50 €.

The stores displaying a “Tax-free shopping” logo will give you a tax refund form when you show them your passport. Please note, not all the shops operate this system, so it’s best to ask before you buy.

When you leave Belgium, customs officers will stamp your form and till receipts. Before check-in, go to the customs office and present your completed form, passport, till receipts and new purchases (the price labels must still be attached) to receive the stamp.

You will then be able to reclaim your refund at the “Europe Tax-Free Shopping Desk” located in the departure lounge of Brussels airport. They will reimburse you in cash or on your credit card.
