The Ommegang of Brussels is now inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage

On 11 December 2019, the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage decided to include the Ommegang on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, with the nomination having satisfied the criteria for inscription. For the past 9 years, visit.brussels has been coordinating the organisation of the Carolus V Festival. The festival highlights the heritage and history of 16th century Europe through a series of conferences and festive and cultural family activities organised in various parts of the Brussels-Capital Region. Every year, the Ommegang is an integral part of the festival and plunges visitors into the heart of the Renaissance period through one of its star protagonists: Charles V.
