A Dutch shell with a Parisian core

A Dutch shell with a Parisian core

The van Buurens began to meticulously build their house in Brussels at the end of the 1920s. The result is a brilliant harmony between architecture and applied arts, interior and exterior, warm colours and dark sections. The most expensive and beautiful materials were used to house this elegance where, little by little, an incredible collection of art works was amassed. The house is a perfect reflection of the Roaring Twenties. The Berkendael district, not far from the van Buuren’s house, is purely residential and has a wide range of architectural styles; Art Deco, Modernism, Cottage, Cubism, etc. Great architects including Henry van de Velde, Paul Amaury Michel, and others, have left their architectural legacy in this district.
