Throughout centuries and across continents, women have struggled to make their voices heard. Could the 21st century be the century for women? Since the 2000s, increasing numbers of women have emerged and established themselves in all business sectors. This trend is particularly strong in Africa, where women’s voices and visibility are growing rapidly, particularly in the arts. At the same time, in Europe, and particularly in Belgium, African and Afro-descendent women are reinventing their place in society, questioning gender identities, expanding their freedom and field of action, and creating new networks. Can we speak of a new “Afropolitan Woman Power”? The festival’s 2021 edition calls upon artists, but also women entrepreneurs, to come and present their creations, and share their experiences, insight, and struggles and hopes, with the public.
