Azadi

Azadi means ‘freedom’ in Punjabi. In 2016, a controversial agreement was signed by the European Union and Turkey in order to prevent refugees from attempting the dangerous crossing of the Mediterranean. However, the crossings continue. Upon their arrival on the Greek isles, refugees are faced with the indefinite – and perhaps infinite – time it takes to process an asylum request. This documentary depicts the transit zone which Lesbos has become through the eyes of two Pakistani refugees and the local fishing community.
