An ENA graduate, former auditor at the French Council of State, lawyer, and an officer in the French Foreign Legion for 16 years, François Sureau is a writer and a member of the Académie française.François Sureau will lead a conference titled: Is literature still dangerous? “The outside world seems to be filled with greater dangers than literature could ever portray: great catastrophes, the terrible political crimes of the 20th century, the violent upheavals of today’s world and the dire prospects of global warming. It seems that in its imitation of art, life has chosen the most tragic,” says Sureau. And yet, according to François Sureau, literature remains dangerous due to the fact that it continues to oppose the control of human consciousness. It embraces the right to dream. It is a refuge for freedom. It is above moral exhortations at a time when nothing is forgotten or forgiven.
