From one forest to another: History and Nature

A true “green lung” for Brussels, the 4,000-hectare Sonian Forest has been a focal point for hundreds of years. A playground for aristocrats in the Middle Ages, the scene of eroding green spaces in the modern period, a habitat for the upper classes in the 19th century and now fulfilling a “social” role, the Sonian Forest has featured prominently in the life of Brussels throughout the ages. With its soil that has remained unchanged since the Ice Age, its waterways and 40 trees considered to be remarkable, the forest is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Immerse yourself in this walk and satisfy your inner historian and naturalist!

A partnership between Itinéraires, sur les Sentiers de l’Histoire, Quentin Debbaudt and the Amis de la Forêt de Soignes.
