After seven months of exhibitions, installations, performances, and concerts at Kanal, coordinated by John Armleder while the work of transforming the site was being carried out, Kanal’s “Hors les Murs” continues with an exhibition of paintings at the ING Art Center, on the theme of humour. Contemporary art can be a very serious affair, but today’s art fairs are full of humour, as is the history of art: Duchamp putting a moustache on the Mona Lisa, the Belgian surrealists, Maurizio Cattelan depicting the pope being struck by a meteorite or selling a banana at an art fair.
