JAZZ 100: Chris Dave & The Drumhedz

29/11/2017 - 29/11/2017

100 jaar geleden verscheen de allereerste jazzplaat: The Original Dixieland Jass Band met ‘Livery Stable Blues’. AB zet daarom één jaar lang jazz extra in de kijker. Van hedendaagse klassiekers over muzikale dwarsliggers die zich door jazz laten inspireren tot de jongste volstrekt eigenzinnige jazzgeneratie van eigen bodem.

Someone who is to be found in the album credits of the likes of Beyoncé, Wynton Marsalis, Pat Metheny, MF Doom, Sonny Rollins, Mos Def, Erykah Badu, Common or Dianne Reeves ... well: feel free to be impressed. No other drummer sounds like Chris Dave, who seamlessly switches from jazz to hip-hop to R&B to rock. More than enough reasons for Rolling Stone to recently include him in their ‘100 Greatest Drummers of All Time’ chart (before U2’s Larry Mullen and after The White Stripes’ Meg White).

Line up: Chris Dave (drums), Isaiah Sharkey (guitar), Kebbi Williams (sax), Jermaine Williams (bass).

Tony Williams (Miles Davis), J Dilla, Jimi Hendrix, Fela Kuti …

The Guardian: ‘The Drumhedz are rewriting everything that rhythmic hipness means – and contemporary jazzmaking, too.’

Kurt Overbergh: ‘Met zo’n indrukwekkende CV dwing je alleen maar respect af.’
