Darina Al Joundi and Charles Berling, two stars of the French theatre, read extracts from Arabic novelsand poems on the theme of 'love'. The programme includes both classical and contemporary literature from the Middle East and North Africa; ranging from the sixth century founding father of Arabic love poetry Imrû l-Qays to big names from contemporary Arabic literature, such as Sonallah Ibrahim and Mahmoud Darwich and not forgetting the female voice, with works by Hanan EL-Cheikh.Darina Al Joundi began her career as a theatre, film and TV actress in Lebanon. In France she became known for her autobiographical play Le jour où Nina Simone a cessé de chanter, which she wrote with Mohamed Kacimi and premiered in the Off section of the 2007 Avignon Festival.  Charles Berling is an actor, author, producer and film and theatre director. He is one of France's most celebrated stars of film and stage, recently appearing in a production of Arthur Miller's A View From the Bridge directed by Ivo Van Hove.
