Mdou Moctar presents 'Afrique Victime'

Those who want to find their way in the wonderful world of World sounds will go far with excellent labels like Analog Africa, Ostinato, Soundway, World Circuit, Honest Jon’s, SublimeFrequencies or Glitterbeat. Sahel Sounds has also become one of those indispensable points of reference too, thanks to label boss Christopher Kirkley – who you can safely describe as the contemporary Alan Lomax. We owe to him the discovery of Les Filles De Illighadad and the desert blues of Mdou Moctar. On their debut, Mdou Moctar distinguished itself from other Tuareg-acts like Bombino or Tinariwen with their striking use of the auto-tune. Mdou Moctar sounds exceptionaly raw and extrememly energetic live. Moctar also provided the music for the very first Tuareg-film 'Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai’, about a young musician that wants to make a name for himself. In essence, the movie was a remake of 'Purple Rain'.They are verging on a global breakthrough with their latest album ‘Afrique Victime’ (and a switch to the Matador label).
