Optimism and creativity in Molenbeek

Molenbeek-Saint-Jean/Sint-Jans-Molenbeek is definitely worth a visit. For a number of years the local authorities, as well as numerous associations, have worked incredibly hard to turn their municipality into a pleasant place to live. Numerous renovations and enhancement projects have been carried out and many young people are beginning to settle in the area. This walking tour through the historical centre of the municipality will showcase some of the associations working to ensure the wellbeing of long-term residents and/or new arrivals. With its social inclusion initiatives, free training, community restaurants and new passive housing based on the principle of housing first, Molenbeek is overflowing with attractive features. You will see an incubator for computer “whizz-kids”, which helps to prepare its students for the job market, and visit JES, a multifunctional space installed in the former Mandarine Napoléon distillery. In short, you will discover a dynamic municipality that is definitely on the up!
