Astor Piazzolla is widely known as the inventor of modern tango, but is this really true? SONICO is a young, Brussels-based quartet which celebrates the repertoire of the unjustly forgotten Argentinian composer Eduardo Rovira. He is thought of as “the other Piazzolla” because of his role in the creation of contemporary tango.

Rovira’s music is eclectic and SONICO proposes to explore the many different periods of his musical heritage, ranging from his electric jazz-tango trio to his modernized take on traditional tangos, from contemporary fusion pieces to his chamber music-inspired tango quartets.
