The Heritage of Immigration

Every one of us was once a new arrival in Brussels: as a newborn baby, as a visitor, as a commuter or as a migrant from Western Flanders, Morocco or the Congo. And we all brought something with us in our luggage: traditions, stories or just simply our history. Today, associations of people who are in Brussels as a result of immigration show you their suitcase. The suitcase with which they (or their grandparents) arrived here many years ago and the content of which is now an integral part of Brussels’s heritage. Drop in to see them and prepare to be surprised by the exhibition, workshops, documentaries and discussion groups offered by volunteers from associations that have arisen within the context of immigration. Learn about the history of African painting, the account of Moroccan soldiers at the Battle of Gembloux during the Second World War, Congolese musical instruments, etc., with music, a light snack and drinks, in an atmosphere that can only be found in multicultural Brussels. Because this is also our heritage!

A partnership between the Federatie van Marokkaanse en Mondiale Democratische Organisaties (FMDO) and its member associations.
