The Marolles, once know as Mariam Colentes

Thanks to your guide you'll discover the history of the early days of this popular neighborhood. Circus travallers, homeless people, lepers and other outcasts had no right to reside within city walls, so were left no other choice but to live in settlements just outside the city. Still today, this neighborhood is, notwithstanding extra help from the city council and numerous tourists visiting the many antique shops, one of the most needy areas in the city. But you wil also be told about some very famous people who lived in that same neighborhood : Andreas Vesalius, Pieter Breughel, Toots Thielemans,... And let's not forget all those marvellous and really special buildings : the pawn shop aka "Auntie's", the wine palace, proof of the renovation of the area and the ever overpowering court house.
