The massive increase of the amount of waste produced by mankind is one of the most important challenges of our time.
According to a recent World Bank report, the amount of waste produced worldwide is expected to increase by 70% by 2050 if no immediate action is taken. Plastic waste in particular damages rivers, oceans and ecosystems for extremely long periods of time. This situation has become even worse in the context of the pandemic, which has led to a considerable increase in the amount of plastic waste produced.
Currently, 34% of all waste is produced in developed countries (where 16% of the world's population lives).
In collaboration with the MAPS images, Géopolis is organising an exhibition about this important issue. The exhibition includes two photo documentaries of Gaël Turine and Simona Ghizzoni.
