The Wiener Symphoniker, which was founded in 1900, is one of the leading orchestras of the Austrian capital. The many conductors who worked with this famous orchestra, including Furtwängler and Fedoseyev, Sawallisch, Krips or Prêtre, were all up to this musical task. The Swiss conductor Philippe Jordan, who has been the orchestra’s principal conductor since 2014, has put together a programme that highlights the Wiener Symphoniker’s impressive sound, powerful brass section and magnificent strings. These qualities, which have contributed to the orchestra’s international reputation, are exceptionally well suited to Dvorák’s masterpiece, his famous New World Symphony and to Brahms’s Violin Concerto, a cult favourite. The excellent Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider joins as the soloist.
