Yefim Bronfman

“Bronfman the brontosaur!” and “[a man who] looks less like the person who is going to play the piano than like the guy who should be moving it”. That’s how Philip Roth describes pianist Yefim Bronfman in his book The Human Stain. But appearances can sometimes be deceiving. Bronfman has power to spare but when he has to, he can be grace personified. No surprise, as Bronfman is known for his warm personality and dry sense of humour. And you can hear that in the way he plays. He effortlessly pairs a dizzying technique with exuberant lyricism. The American pianist plays alongside the greatest orchestras and conductors in the world, and is also a seasoned recital pianist. The proof is this varied concert with a number of classics from piano music, including the dreamlike Clair de lune and the playful Humoreske by Schumann.
