The historical site of the Anderlecht Abattoirs is well worth a visit. Its monumental entrance flanked by two bulls and its gigantic hall are on the list of protected sites and monuments. The height and metallic structure of the covered hall are impressive. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, it hosts a food market which draws tens of thousands of visitors. The hall also regularly hosts ‘Boeremet’ evenings – festive gatherings which have become a favourite with the people of Brussels. The superb redbrick vaults are available for hire for cultural and festive activities.
