Virtually the next-door neighbour to the Brasserie de l'Etoile, the Brasserie Van Doren occupied the land between Rue Notre-Dame du Sommeil, Rue des Fabriques, Rempart des Moines and Place du Jardin aux Fleurs. The buildings, in a variety of styles, are protected. On one side, red brick from the mid-19th century forms an imposing industrial façade. On the other side, on Place du Jardin aux Fleurs, the materials of choice are cement, blue stone and cast iron, with curving lines that already herald the arrival of Art Nouveau. All these buildings have been preserved and restored, and the façades bear witness to the considerable industrial activity that took place in the city centre in the 19th century.
