The Royal Castle of Laeken

The Royal Castle of Laeken

This Louis XVI style castle is built on the site of an old manor-house purchased by the governors, Marie-Christine and Albert of Saxe-Techen. Napoleon bought the estate and embellished it in order to give it to his wife Joséphine de Beauharnais. Later, it was King William I of the unified Netherlands who moved in there, then the Kings of the Belgians made it their residence.
