  • "100 Masters": 100 Top showpieces from Brussels' museums

    On 18 May 2016 the Brussels Museum Council launched a mighty image campaign to promote the best showpieces in the permanent collections at Brussels' museums. The aim? To inform the general public – Brussels, Belgium and international – of the enormous wealth of museum heritage. Museums often invest considerable time, money and energy in exhibitions, meaning that the valuable pieces in their permanent collections can remain in shadows. The campaign “100 Masters” aimed to bring these unique pieces into the spotlight: a selection of 100 top items featured in the spotlights in 41 Brussels museums for 100 days (18/5-27/8/2016).

    In figures: 100 top items, 100 days, 41 participating museums, 3,795,607 impressions on Facebook, 1,484,999 impressions on Twitter, hundreds of special events linked to the project (guided apero-tours, tours for families and children, speed dates, workshops…)

  • BOZAR Electronic Arts Festival (BEAF)

    What started in 2008 as an electronic music festival (BEMF) became a multi-day, multidisciplinary event entirely dedicated to the electronic arts four years later. The BEAF 2016 schedule consists of a three-day musical segment (notably including James Holden, Gold Panda, and Anthony Child) and a ten-day digital arts segment presenting the "Tendencies - Belgian Art in the Digital Age" exhibition as well as an exciting collection of award-winning and nominated 2016 STARTS Prize works. For this 5th edition of the BOZAR Electronic Arts Festival (BEAF), BOZAR focused particularly on the interactions between art, science, technology, and social issues. The growing importance of art and innovation will become more pronounced in future editions.

  • " MOST NOTED EXHIBITION 2016 "

  • Ukiyo-e - The most beautiful Japanese prints

    Accessible since 21 October 2016 at the Cinquantenaire Museum, this highly anticipated event lets visitors explore the Cinquantenaire Museum's extraordinary collection of prints, which are world-renowned due to their exemplary quality but have not been on public display since Europalia Japan (1989). In this way the exhibition recounts the evolution of prints from its early black and white days through its new flowering in the Twentieth Century, while also highlighting certain specific themes such as erotic prints or even Osaka's refined production. At the end of the exhibition, a space dedicated to the work of Belgian illustrator Dimitri Piot whose creations reinterpret the ukiyo-e world with a modern twist.

  • Couleur Café

    Couleur Café is the largest urban music festival in Belgium. Hip hop, soul, funk, reggae, dub, ska, dance, pop and Latin music are all represented over three days at Brussels' Tour & Taxis centre.
Well into its third decade of contemporary carnivals, Couleur Café is known for its delicious, exotic Souk market, breathtaking visual performances, funky brass bands and beautiful bars serving fresh cocktails. Last year’s line-up featured some true legends like CHIC ft. Nile Rodgers, De La Soul, Youssou N’Dour, Method Man & Redman as well as local gods like Arno, Selah Sue, Black Box Revelation and Ghinzu, not forgetting popular names like Chronixx, Apollo Brown & Guilty Simpson and many, many more. This year the festival will take place in a completely new location, the beautiful park next to the Atomium, from June 30th to July 2nd.

  • ART ON PAPER, The Brussels Contemporary Drawing Fair

    ART ON PAPER, in conjunction with BOZAR offers an art salon devoted to contemporary drawing. The salon presents itself in an original way: 25 contemporary Belgian and international art galleries coming together in Brussels to organise 25 solo shows over five days for fledgling and established artists. Twenty-five niches in which an artist's character is revealed and to which the young award-winning talent's solo show and a young talent drawing night are added. The purpose of ART ON PAPER is to become a veritable "drawing portal," be counted among the world's notable fairs, and position itself as the number one drawing salon in Europe, thus facilitating new networking opportunities for collectors, art critics, fans, journalists, institutions, curators, and artists.

    The Brussels Food Truck Festival has been the largest event of its kind in Europe since its first edition in 2014. This festival illustrates the soul, conviviality, and multiculturalism of Brussels to the world.   • Art and Design Atomium Museum (ADAM)

    A museum and an art centre, the Art & Design Atomium Museum (ADAM) is a site dedicated to art and design of the 20thcentury and today. Opened after the Atomium's acquisition of the Plasticarium's collection in December 2014, ADAM presents the use of plastics in artistic endeavours from the 1950s to today as a permanent exhibition. Adjacent to the large space dedicated to the Plasticarium collection, nearly 1,200 m² are earmarked to host temporary exhibitions, spotlighting important subjects and artists in design, photography, and contemporary art. ADAM is also a 400-seat auditorium, an educational and cultural service offering programming for children, teenagers, and school groups, as well as a conference and film schedule related to the topics addressed.

  • Jam Hotel

    The Jam Hotel is a new 78-room hotel combining the luxury of lavish suites with the practicality of a dormitory able to host ten people. Brutalist architecture, preserved in this building renovated in the 1970s, is blended with the warmth of unfinished wood and the bright colours of the works of art on display throughout the hotel. From an interior decorating, design, and layout standpoint, a swimming pool, game room, two bars, and a restaurant create a whole intended to be innovative in terms of decor, ambiance, and conviviality in keeping with the traditional spirit of a hotel chain.

  • " PUBLIC INITIATIVE 2016 "

  • Make.Brussels

    The four-day lock-down imposed in the wake of the Paris attacks and the terrorist threat have significantly tarnished the capital's image and economy. Launched three days after the 22 March attacks, Make.Brussels is a call from Atrium.Brussels to citizens inviting them to get involved and think up creative projects to bring the magic back to downtown Brussels. The project is divided into four phases over eight months from April through December: first, citizens submit their ideas on the web site. Ten workshops in the Pentagon's ten districts and a "speed-making" were organised to encourage local buy-in, idea generation, and networking, then the public selected the 30 best ideas. In phase three, a marathon creative weekend allowed them to be challenged by experts and prototyped into concrete projects. A panel of Brussels personalities ultimately selected the 10 winning projects, kicking off phase four, production.

    A few facts and figures: 372 ideas submitted, 27,936 voters, a hundred marathon participants, ten projects financed at the level of €30,000 each, three projects financed via crowdfunding and two independently.
