Jean-David Morvan's bio
Born in Reims in 1969, Jean-David Morvan is a French comic book writer.
After earning his baccalaureate in philosophy and plastic arts, he went off to study comic books at the Saint-Luc School in Brussels (1989) for a few months and then went on to the Brussels Fine Arts Academy. At first he was more focused on drawing before definitively trading his brushes for a writer's pen.
He was still in Brussels when he was asked to produce his first comic book with Sylvain Savoia. He quit school in order to devote himself to a successful launch of his new adventure.
Zenda, Glénat, and Delcourt were the first publishers to give him a chance. But it was the publication of the "Wake" series (1998) with Delcourt Publishing (with Philippe Buchet illustrating) that brought him name recognition with readers as a writer. To this day "Wake" remains his best-seller: 19 volumes plus spin-offs, more than two million copies sold in France and 15 foreign translations. With Buchet, he won the best youth comic book prize in 2006 and 2008 at the Angoulême Festival.
Since then he has worked with several publishers, not just European, but Asian and American as well. We might mention, for example, the original Wolverine stories (Saudade, at Marvel) and a collaboration with Kamui Fujiwara, which appeared as a live manga in Japan. He works with authors from all over the world for France, especially Taniguchi Jiroh ("My Year" at Dargaud). He has some 250 albums to his credit.
Another Belgian story: between 2004 and 2009 he continued the series "Spirou and Fantasio" at Dupuis Publishing with Jose-Luis Munuera.
Jean-David Morvan is also the series editor for several European publishers.
THE JEAN-DAVID MORVAN SALON
Jean-David Morvan will be on hand in his salon throughout the Brussels Comic Strip Festival. He will do what he usually does: He will work from his couch, use social media every which way, discuss his work, and interview his main contributors. His contributors will come and show him (as well as the audience) their new panels, answer questions, improvise autograph sessions and other spectacular performances. Don't forget to stop by and have a coffee with Morvan from 1 to 3 September… in his living-room!
