Publisher Spaces

As is the case every year, the big-name publishers set up shop at the Brussels Comic Strip Festival and offer an extraordinary programme for all of their fans! With hundreds of authors available to sign autographs, activities for younger children, conferences for older visitors, and competitions just about everywhere, there is something for everyone!

DUPUIS

PARC – stand D13

This year the Brussels Comic Strip Festival celebrates 60 years of Gaston Lagaffe!
The Spirou Festival, which has become an annual event, and the Brussels Comic Strip Festival are putting on a number of events dedicated to Gaston. About forty authors accepted the invitation and a large area will be devoted to activities for very young children: face-painting, colouring on digital tables, photocall, quiz, activities and Gaston challenges.  Numerous Gaston balloons will also be available at the Spirou Festival along with a wide distribution of caps and a special edition of Spirou Magazine.
But this will also be the chance to get a sneak peek at The Gaffe Gallery, a special album produced by a group of sixty authors in honour of the anti-hero who influenced their childhood and inspired them to draw. It will be available as a deluxe edition on Friday and Sunday in the Spirou Festival bookstore.
And that's not all!

  • An exhibition is dedicated to Gaston in Bozar's Horta Hall as well as various conferences.

  • TRAGAWDOUKOUTRRR: ode to the gaffophone an off-the-wall musical show developed by Max Vandervorst, pataphonist specialising in gaffes and blunders.

  • The giant version of the Gaston balloon may be visible during the Balloon's Parade, which will take place Sunday morning.

  • A special screening of the film Le Petit Spirou (Director Nicolas Bary - Cast: Sacha Pinault, Natacha Régnier, and Pierre Richard) will be held in the prestigious Henry Le Bœuf Room at Bozar. The authors of Le Petit Spirou comics, Tome and Janry, will be on hand to share in this extraordinary moment.

This year Dargaud offers a programme for the whole family! Author autograph sessions, painting and drawing workshop, daily contests, photo shoots with many heroes and so much more...
Come and meet authors like Olivier Taduc, Aubin, Jordi Lafebre, Renaud Dillies, Mikael, Alexis Dormal, Christian Denayer, Martin Jamar, Francis Porcel, Oriol Hernandez, Mathieu Burniat, Josep Homs, Alain Goffin, Dollphane, Haruna Kishi, etc.

Exquisite corpse
Watch Zidrou and his Spanish illustrators express their abundant imagination: Jordi Lafebre, Josep Homs, Orieol Hernandez, and Francis Porcel.
Using a word or drawing as a starting point, Zidrou and his illustrators will carry you away in a colourful, brand new story!

Drawing concert: "Loup, looking for memories"
Loup, the talented guitarist, has lost his memory....To help him get it back, comics author Renaud Dillies and guitarist Michel Castillano guide him along the way.
A beautiful show full of poetic music and drawing in search of Loup's memories.

EDITIONS P’TIT LOUIS

PARC – stand D9

P'tit Louis Publishing offers you the chance to learn about the stages of comics production with Bruno Bertin, author of the Adventures of Vick and Vicky (length: 1 hr - 1.5 hr, 2 to 3 times daily).
Thanks to the comic "the guide or the secret of Leonardo da Vinci" and an exhibition produced in conjunction with Clos Lucé and Royal Ambrosia Castle, the comic illustrators' tricks won't fool you any more!
 

LOMBARD

PARC – Stand A20

After a stately celebration of their 70th anniversary at the 2016 running of the Brussels Comic Strip Festival, Le Lombard Publishing is back in force and this time will celebrate the 40th anniversary of their iconic character: Thorgal! However, they won't fail to pay homage to their famous dunce, Ducobu.

Fancy Fair
The Saint-Potache School will be celebrating on Saturday and Sunday at the Lombard booth! On the schedule: a fancy fair put on by the famous dunce, attended by his rival and constant companion, Léonie! Giant memory, wheel of fortune, games of skill, coconut shy, and many other activities will delight your kids. Earn gold stars by meeting these challenges and win sweets for your favourite students, and plenty of other surprises! But watch out, little rascals, the Latouche teacher is never far away...

Scavenger hunt - The Dizhhi Quest
Who is this mysterious tiger-man who protects you from all perils without fail? Why are all of our classmates and professors scared of you? Step into Ange Tomassini's shoes for a treasure hunt to unlock the secret of your hidden power! Will you manage to wake the Dizhi that sleeps within you?
Inspired by the event series, this scavenger hunt will carry you off around the Brussels Comic Strip Festival on a search for treasures, which, once combined, will enable you to awaken your supernatural Dizhi power!
Along the way there are Klawalbums and goodies to win, stop hesitating and get into the game!

Thorgal in the flesh at the Brussels Comic Strip Festival!
In partnership with the Kaernunos studio, dive into a life-sized adventure alongside Thorgal and Kriss de Valnor, and become a Nordic hero yourself. Report to the Lombard booth (A20) in order to participate in these activities Saturday and Sunday from 1 PM to 6 PM and you just might be lucky enough to run into these two heroes, not to mention other enchanted creatures, during your walk.
Activity for ages six and up, additional information at the booth, space limited.

Thorgal Exhibition
As part of the 40th anniversary of the famous series created by Jean Van Hamme and Grzegorz Rosinski, discover over thirty original black and white panels nestled in the jewel box that is the Palais des Beaux-Arts! From the first albums to the latest instalments of the Child of the Stars saga, forty years of drawings will be a feast for eyes young and old. To top it all off, you will have the chance to explore this exhibitionwith the artist, so be sure to enquire at the Lombard booth for additional information on guided tours.

Live drawing
For the very first time in Brussels, attend a  live painting performance by Grzegorz Rosinski live at the Brussels Comic Strip Festival! In the time it takes him to do a drawing, the master will give you a window into his world. The work will then be exhibited in the Lombard Publishing stand's bookstore and auctioned off for charity.

Without saying he was influenced by the cinema, Grzegorz Rosinski has nonetheless been affected by a number of films! You will have the pleasure of exploring his carte blanche Friday night at the Cinematek, introduced by the artist himself.

Casterman publishing makes the most of the Brussels Comic Strip Festival to offer you very exclusive programming! Film premieres, new releases, original exhibition in Belgium, etc. You will be spoiled!
Casterman will present a premiere of Jean Louis Tripp's Ecstasies. As for films, still Belgian or world premieres, the adaptations of A Bright Sky by Jiro Taniguchi produced by ARTE, Polina and the animated series Lastman by Bastien Vives will reaffirm the tight connections between the 7th and 9th arts. Pandora magazine will also be on hand for an encounter with Benoit Mouchart, Max de Radiguès, and Hugo Piette. Not to mention the many authors coming to meet their audiences for signing sessions and the introduction of new youth releases at the Casterman booth.

Bamboo Publishing at the Brussels Comic Strip Festival: Are you more Sisters or Marcel Pagnol?

Casenove and William will offer you an exclusive opportunity to watch a few episodes of Sisters, the animated series based on their cult comics (Bozar, Room M, Saturday, 2 Sept. from 12 to 1 PM). Bonus: a totally bonkers workshop with William on Sunday, 3 Sept. at 3 PM: do you dream of making the funniest faces in the world for the Sisters, your favourite comic book heroines? If you are more into pastis and petanque, the Cinematek offers you a screening of Heartbeat (1938) by Marcel Pagnol (Saturday, 2 Sept. at 5 PM) accompanied by the comic's authors, Efix and S. Scotto. There will also be a petanque competition right  in the middle of Parc de Bruxelles.

Fluide Glacial turns up in Brussels for the first time!
The Umour and Bandessinées Journal  created in 1975 by Gotlib will also have its smart Alec part to play. Especially by offering to instruct you via the very serious Gag Conference by James and Bernstein, on Saturday, 2 September at 4:30 PM in Room M at Bozar.
The same day, Fred Jannin, Zep, and Daniel Goossens will participate in a public discussion titled  GOTLIBUS DECONNUS REX: IN MEMORIAM (Saturday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in Room M at Bozar) during which they will discuss their long collaboration with Gotlib, who passed away a few months ago.

BALLON MEDIA

For the tenth year in a row, Ballon Media will be present at the Comic Strip Festival for dozens of comic book signings in Dutch! Set up in the stunning setting of BOZAR, and supported by the Comic Strip Museum which will be offering an exhibition dedicated to the new generation of Flemish comic strips, it will delight Flemish-speaking visitors!
 

FÉDÉRATION WALLONIE-BRUXELLES

"Small formats"
The Wallonia-Brussels Federation and "La Crypte Tonique" publisher-bookstore are teaming up to offer a programme on young Comics authors and an exhibition dedicated to "small format" books. The Wallonia-Brussels Federation will notably introduce a section of comics and old books, which attests to a desire to increase the circulation of graphic novels at a lower cost. For something new, you will discover author Dimitri Piot's new creation and brochures for new graphic youth novels, published as part of "Passion for Reading 2017."

The Pacquet Group is pleased to participate once again at the Brussels Comic Strip Festival!
Come meet their authors (Francesco Castelli, Olivier Speltens, Stefano Tamiazzo, André Taymans, Georges van Linthout, Etienne Willem, etc.) who will be delighted to autograph their albums. For their part, the youngest visitors will have fun with Petzi, the famous baby bear, thanks to a small wheel of fortune which will let them win badges, bookmarks, and other comic book copies. And lots of other surprises!
 

GLÉNAT

BOZAR – stand F18

À FOND LE SLIP !
O Joy: Zep will be at the Brussels Comic Strip Festival! He will come here exclusively to introduce - and autograph - the 15th album of Titeuf, whose adolescent preoccupations are always the same: friends...and girls. Titeuf's return will be the subject of an exhibition specially designed for the event at Bozar (Circuit Royal, booth...). In addition, Zep has agreed to introduce a screening  of "Titeuf, the Movie," the extraordinary feature film he produced in 2011! (Bozar, Room M, Saturday, 2 September at 6 PM).

Another author from the Grenoble company will also be in the spotlight: Jean-David Morvan. This year, he will have his own booth (well, well, well) at which he will present the IRENA, MAO ZEDONG, RAVAGES, and SPY GAMES series with his illustrators. Like, for example, the very spectacular Korean illustrator Kim JungGi , who will host a drawing show throughout the Brussels Comic Strip Festival, during which you will witness the live birth of a gigantic mural (Jean-David Morvan Fair & Space Drawing Show, Horta Hall, Bozar).

Jean-David Morvan will also offer you the chance to get a peek at the latest from Glénat Comics, the label he co-manages with Olivier Jalabert (Morvan Fair, Sunday at 12:30 PM).

Finally, twenty authors will be signing autographs at the Glénat booth throughout the weekend.
 

KANA

PARC – stand A2

Between manga, shojo, shonen, and seinen!
The venerable company, which celebrated its twentieth anniversary last year, goes on tour again and presents us its latest offerings. Featuring: a superb retrospective exhibitiondedicated to Kazuo Kamimura, the famous 1970s author who most notably gave us "Lady Snowblood," "When We Lived Together," and more recently "The Divorcés Club." There you may explore the work of an artist who blossomed in the midst of the "gekika" (manga for adults with great psychological depth) craze.
Author Elsa Brants will be there to sign her series "Save Me Pythie," a delightful shonen that mixes humour and action.
Finally, we are thrilled to be screening the film that opened the Anecy Festival this year: “In a Corner of this World”, the Japanese animated film based on the manga of the same name, a sensitive and strong portrait of a young Japanese woman in Hiroshima, before and after the bomb (Bozar, Room M, Friday, 1 September at 4 PM).
 

RUE DE SÈVRES

A crackling newcomer
Although it's only been active in the industry for a few years, this big new comics player has had people talking since its first book, which was authored by... Zep! Since then this company, which is associated with the Ecole des Loisirs (a leader in French youth publishing, has had a number of high quality releases. So, Alex Alice will come and sign the third volume of his "Castle in the Stars, the award-winning retro sci-fi series.

You've never heard of  INFINITY 8? This event series will also be represented by its authors in Brussels. An eight-volume space opera imagined by Lewis Trondheim and Olivier Vatine, assembling a dazzling cast of authors, Infinity 8 will be the subject of a conference (Bozar, Room M, Sunday, 3 September at 12:30 PM) and its authors will autograph the first volumes of what is already a sensation in European sci-fi. Finally, the young Philocomix team (Thivet, Vermeer, Combeaud) will introduce this weighty fun-philosophy tome which puts ten philosophers (and their ten approaches to happiness) within the reach of the first brain that comes along.
 

FUTUROPOLIS

BOZAR – stand F26

THE RETURN!
After a few years of absence, Futuro returns to the Comic Strip Festival, with some prestigious authors: 

  • Pascal Rabaté and Kokor with their new collaboration: Alexandrin ou l’art de faire des vers à pied, a beautiful poetic fable from two authors (Rabaté with the story, Kokor with the illustrations);
  • Michel Constant with his new piece as a complete author: La dame de fer, a story that takes place on the English coast and begins the day Margaret Thatcher dies;
  • Étienne Le Roux, illustrator for the third and final volume of the La mémoire dans les poches, story written by Luc Brunschwig;
  • Christian Durieux, will also be present to sign copies of the first volume of Geisha, written by Christian Perrissin, which tells of an apprentice geisha in Japan at the start of the 20th century;
  • Thierry Murat Will be present for Etunwan, his book that was nominated for the PrixPrem1ère graphic novel prize;
  • Jean-Luc Cornette will also do a book signing for his comic book Le million d’éléphant, illustrated by Vanyda.
