PARC ROYAL, PLACE DU GRAND SABLON, STREETS OF BRUSSELS AND GRAND PLACE, STARTING AT 8.15 P.M.: OMMEGANG PROCESSION
On WEDNESDAY 5 and FRIDAY 7 July 2017, relive the procession organised in 1549 for Charles V and his son, the future Philip II.
1400 paraders will help you to relive a historic moment on the streets of Brussels: musicians, singers, dancers, horsemen, uniformed guards, flag-carriers and people in period costumes will all contribute to recreating the Renaissance atmosphere of these regions. Charles V's carriage will set off from his former palace in Brussels at the Place Royal at 8:15 p.m. The Ommegang pre-procession will start at the Parc Royal around 8:40 p.m. to join the members of the guilds of crossbowmen, archers, harquebusiers and fencers at Sablon. The full historical procession, led by the carriage, will set out from Sablon at 8:50 p.m. and parade through the streets of Brussels to the Grand Place where the show will have been on since 8.45 p.m.
SABLON, WEDNESDAY 5 AND FRIDAY 7 JULY, AT AROUND 7.20 P.M.: CROSSBOW SHOOTING
On WEDNESDAY 5 and FRIDAY 7 July, the Ommegang festivities present a shooting competition between the two Brussels guilds of crossbowmen outside the church of Notre Dame du Sablon.
Arriving from the Place Royale, Charles V will make his entrance into the church, where visitors will be able to see a historical re-enactment of the procession around the church.
PARC ROYAL FROM WEDNESDAY 5 JULY TO SATURDAY 8 JULY 2017, STARTING AT 12 P.M. :
RENAISSANCE VILLAGE / JOUSTS / ROYAL BREAK The paths of the Parc Royal in Brussels will be transformed into a genuine historical village. A host of activities will enliven this reminder of the Renaissance: armed combat, jousting and falconers. The jousting knights will put on a thrilling show for young and old alike.
Opposite the Palais Royal, in the Parc de Bruxelles, a temporary patio will be set up beneath an elegant open marquee. A place of relaxation, ideal for lunch or drinks after work!
AGORA and BOURSE, FROM WEDNESDAY 5 JULY TO SATURDAY 8 JULY 2017, STARTING AT 12 P.M.
RENAISSANCE MARKET: Set up on two sites not far from the Grand Place. Merchants and craftsmen will be offering products from another era.
