SPRING RHAPSODY???????The violinist Renaud Capuçon will remain in Brussels to regale us with another concert. We will have another chance to enjoy Schumann’s Symphony no. 1 and Copland’s Appalachian Spring. Our conductor Hugh Wolff has a longstanding relationship with the latter work, which he recorded with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra in 1991 just after the composer’s death. The ambience of renewal and nature pervades the program, which is supplemented with Maurice Ravel’s Tzigane. This translates as ‘gypsy’. Ravel was inspired by this nomadic people for his rhapsody. We can hear the tempestuous and mystic relationship with nature in the dramatic opening, a long and challenging solo for Capuçon.
