An airliner above the ocean. When an unexpected storm breaks out, panic quickly ensues. With ingenious staging, Philippe Quesne takes you onto the plane, on which the passengers fear for their lives. After the inevitable crash on a deserted island, the group of survivors have to try and make contact with the outside world. The idea of an island as a place of infinite possibilities has always been a source of inspiration for writers and artists. It can be a place of heroism or of tribulation; of utopia, dystopia, or something in between. What are the transformations that people undergo when they find themselves in social isolation? In Crash Park, Philippe Quesne has created his own colourful Robinsonade, full of wondrous creatures. He is inspired by numerous myths and stories, from Homer’s Odyssey to the fantasies of Jules Verne. Will the characters – while singing and playing music – turn the island into a place of exile, or will they encounter a utopia?
• Philippe Quesne’s distinctly visual work is performed in theatres across the world, from New York to Hong Kong. He is a regular guest at Kaaitheater, where he has presented, a.o., L'Effet de Serge, La Mélancolie des Dragons, La nuit des taupes, and (during Performatik17) Caspar Western Friedrich.
