The conference gives an overview of the artistic and historical situation of Hungary at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. While presenting the various Hungarian artists' colonies, it highlights that of Gödöllő, as the most significant artistic gathering of the Hungarian Secession. The conference aims to attract the attention to the many facets of Gödöllő artists, as they excelled not only in the fine arts but also in the decorative arts including furniture, upholstery and architecture. Artists from the Gödöllő colony were part of the 20th century reform lifestyle movements, which involved sport activities, a vegetarian diet and favouring the comfort in their clothing, not the fashion trends. The conference is given in English by the curator of the exhibition and closed by a guided tour.
This lecture is featured in the framework of the joint exhibition of the Balassi Institute in Brussels and the City Museum of Gödöllő about the Artists' Colony of Gödöllö.
