Amor Mundi, the love for the world is a philosophy of life that was expressed by both Hannah Arendt and Rosa Luxemburg. The world cannot live without our attention and care; we will have to talk about the world together. Rosa Luxemburg (1871-1919) and Hannah Arendt (1906-1975) were both political thinkers who, on the basis of their critical reflection on capitalism and consumerism, advocated more citizen participation in politics.Against the background of the uprising of the gilets jaunes in France and the student protests against climate change in Belgium and elsewhere, Joke Hermsen wonders in this lecture to what extent the insights of Luxembourg and Arendt can help us in the transition to a more sustainable, humane and solidarity-based society.Joke Hermsen is a writer and philosopher. Time is an important theme in her work. We live at odds with time, which increases anxiety, fear and uncertainty. Joke Hermsen has written several books about it, including Stil de tijd (2009), Windstilte van de ziel (2010) and Kairos. Een nieuwe bevlogenheid (2014).
