After five years of arduous renovation work, the “Palace” cinema now has a fresh new look. Four “state-of-the-art” scree¬ning rooms and a number of multicultural areas are now ready to meet their public.

Palace is an amazing complex as an entertainment venue based on discovery, learning and open-mindedness.

AN HISTORICAL ART NOUVEAU VENUE

In 1913, the French company Les Grands Palais d’Attractions Pathé Frères commissioned the architect Paul Hamesse to create a flamboyant entertainment complex modelled on “Italian-style” theatres. In this way, the Pathé Palace was in¬tended to serve several purposes from the outset.

Comprising a cinema, a cabaret café and a music hall, it was designed to offer its clients a full programme of evening entertainments. The venue then boasted 2,500 seats, and for several years it enjoyed the status of being the capital’s largest cinematic theatre.

A MULTIPURPOSE VENUE

Conceived as a multipurpose venue offering the public both culture and entertainment, Palace revolves around three main centres of activity: the screening rooms, a restaurant, and meeting and reception areas. The complex is designed to provi¬de both educational and recreational experiences, its mosaic-like quality reflecting the city centre in which it stands.

Boasting four screening rooms (one of which holds 373 spectators and is ideal for special events), Palace is developing possibilities for customised activities to cater for visitors with a variety of requirements.

Conviviality and exchange are the key values governing the dynamics of the venue. They also lie at the heart of its restau¬rant and catering services, which offer a range of options :

  • On the ground floor leading onto the Rue Van Praet, a restaurant with seating for a hundred guests offers a gourmet menu with the focus on sustainability and local produce. Customers can also sample a selection of craft beers and carefully chosen wines at the elegant bar, which is open from 12H00 through to 22H00. Upstairs, the adaptable, modular mezzanine space serves brunches and takes group bookings on request.
  • On the first floor of the complex, cinema-goers can enjoy the tasty hot or cold snacks offered by the Kiosque.
  • Finally, the venue’s many reception areas provide exceptional settings for special events, like the Foyer Hamesse, an Art Nouveau jewel restored to its original state and classified by the Monuments and Sites Directorate.
