  • MOST NOTED EXHIBITION 2013

  • Kandinsky & Russia

The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium devoted a major exhibition to the Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky (Moscow 1866 - Neuilly-sur- Seine 1944), the father of abstract art. More than 150 works from several major museums in Russia plunged the visitor into the period 1901-1922, two critical decades in the artist’s career. The exhibition set out to get across the Russian context behind the artistic upheaval embodied by the creation of the first abstract work. To explain the close links it has with the art of icons and popular culture, the exhibition brought together works and objects that reflect the permanence of traditions in the work of artists such as Kazimir Malevich and Mikhail Larionov.

Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium from the 8th of March to the 30th of June 30.

  • INTERNATIONAL EVENT 2013

  • Europalia.India

For its 24th edition, Europalia International showcased the cultural riches of India. Over 200 cultural institutions exposed visitors to Indian artists and Indian works of art. Over a four-month space of time, dancers, musicians, authors, writers and directors, as well as Indian cuisine and Indian art imbued Brussels with the flavours of India. By way of a variety of different themes such as the body, water, and the diaspora of Bollywood, the veil was lifted on the sheer complexity of Indian art and culture. The events featured the subcontinent's classical art forms and traditions and tomorrow's India, as well as the way in which India is perceived by the West (Indomania).

  • BEST GASTRONOMIC CONCEPT 2013

  • Les Filles

"Les Filles” is a culinary concept combining different activities that aim to tantalise your tastebuds (with traditional, sustainable and/or organic produce) in a great setting. The four floors of a beautiful town house in Brussels’ Dansaert district have been converted into a palace of good taste. On the ground floor, an open production kitchen and grocery. On the 1st floor, large wooden trestle tables. On the 2nd floor, a space dedicated to cooking classes and private events and, finally, on the 3rd floor, a seminar space. Les Filles always comes up with a set menu devised to surprise, open your eyes but also ensure the freshness of the products.

  • NEW EVENT LOCATION 2013

  • Palais 12

The creation of Palais 12 is part of the NEO project that sets out to turn the Heysel plateau into a modern, multifunctional district. For over 30 years, the music and event scene was calling out for a large capacity venue in Brussels. A former hall of the Brussels Expo, Palais 12, redeveloped into a concert hall and events venue, finally comes up with a response to this request. With a modular layout (from 2,500 to 18,000 seats), the Palais 12 can host a whole range of shows and events and its acoustic quality has already been confirmed by many artists and industry professionals.

  • HOTEL NEWCOMER 2013

  • Funkey Hotel

The Funkey Hotel is a project that has matured for years in the minds of its designer, Philippe Thibaut, who is passionate about children’s games and human relationships. The hotel is located in Schaerbeek, in a building dating from the early 20th century, which already has a long history behind it. Based on the theme of childhood and play, the address is somewhere between a hotel, a youth hostel and a guesthouse. There are 4 categories of rooms, sleeping between 2 and 5 people. Everything is done to make guests feel welcome and at home: in the common room, many quality board games are freely available, and the staff team is always available to explain the rules of the game and play with the guests.
