5x2 opens with a divorce that draws the curtain on a shared past that is then explored: five scenes from the life of a couple play out in reverse order, in search of a love that may never have existed... A dark Ozon (this is not unusual) casts an unflinching gaze over his characters, both main and secondary. It is a film made with the usual sure touch of the man many consider to be the most important French filmmaker of his generation, always as accessible to arthouse film buffs as he is to fans of mainstream cinema.
