Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 owes its enormous success in equal measure to its sombre melodies as to its feverish and haunting rhythms. The opening bars of Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 are equally haunting. You can count on Camille Thomas’ commitment and spirited playing to interpret the vigorous theme once dedicated to Rostropovich. Ten years after her first public performance at BOZAR, in the Sunday morning concert series, the young Franco-Belgian cellist – now a Deutsche Grammophon artist – will demonstrate her skill as a leading soloist, alongside an equally talented musician, Elena Schwarz. After her debut at the head of ensembles such as the WDR Sinfonieorchester or the Detroit Symphony, the young Swiss-Australian conductor will lead the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège towards her musical ideal.
