The indigenous or exotic living collections of the Botanical Garden, created in 1922 by Jean Massart, are intended for research, university teaching and scientific popularization.
They are made up of almost 2000 vegetal species located on 5 hectares and divided up in different gardens: the medicinal and aromatic plants garden, the evolutionary garden, the cultivated plants garden, the orchard, the arboretum and the experimental area. You can also find two collections associated with two studies conducted by the ULB: metallophyte vegetation and invasive plants.
There is also a wet area set up as a nature reserve and included in the Natura 2000 Network.
