Since January 1st 2018, in order to improve air quality and therefore public health, the use of the most polluting vehicles is prohibited in the Brussels LEZ (Low Emission Zone).
The regulation affects cars, vans ≤ 3.5 tonnes, and buses and coaches, whether registered in Belgium or abroad.

Vehicles registered abroad (exception : authorised vehicles with a Dutch number plate) must be registered before entering the territory of Brussels. From 1 January 2020, it is possible to buy your pass and register after driving in the LEZ, until midnight the next day.
- Registration is free.
- The registration must be made via the official website www.lez.brussels
- The vehicle registration is valid for 3 years provided that the vehicle owner’s situation does not change.
- Any non-registered vehicle is liable to a fine of 150 euros.
- Currently, the registration of a vehicle for access to the City of Antwerp is not valid in Brussels, it is necessary to provide a separate registration.
New: from 1 January 2020, it is possible to buy your pass and register after driving in the LEZ, until midnight the next day.
