  • The purpose of the hotel barometer is to provide a monthly view on the performance of the hotel industry.
It gives the occupancy rates and average prices of hotel rooms on monthly basis. This report is an extract of the report received by hotels participating to the study.
The data comes from the research company MkG Hospitality which collects and treat them from a sample of hotels.
Please be aware that the weekly figures are based on a restricted panel which varied from week to week and was made up of around 60 establishments.

  • The purpose of the barometer of overnights is to give a monthly view on the bednights spent by tourists in Brussels. The data comes from the National Statistics Office who collects them from hotels in Brussels.

  • The barometer of museums and attractions is built from the collection of visitors’ statistics (permanent collections and temporary exhibitions) from a panel of museums and attractions in Brussels. This panel can evolve in time by adding a new museum but all figures and evolutions are done on a constant scope : when a museum enters the panel, its past data are also included in the figures.

  • Visitor monitoring based on mobile data

Since July 2020, visit.brussels has been monitoring monthly tourist numbers in the Brussels-Capital Region by using mobile phone data provided by Proximus.

This anonymous data provides us with information such as visitors' place of origin or the number of visitors in specific neighbourhoods.

For the sake of clarity, global data has been separated from neighbourhood data:

    • the global data takes into account the entire Brussels-Capital Region territory.
    • the neighbourhood data represents a specific area, determined and limited by the telecommunication network. It may not correspond to the actual boundary of the neighbourhood. Also, if a visitor has been counted in two different areas, he will be recorded twice. For that reason, that data cannot be added together.

Use the filters of this report to display the information you want. Please be aware that several charts could be impacted by the same filter.

  • The barometer of guided tours is built from the collection of tours and visitors’ statistics from a panel of guides organizations in Brussels. This panel can evolve in time by adding a new organization but all figures and evolutions are done on a constant scope : when an organization enters the panel, its past data are also included in the figures.
